Dress for Success Michigan has been a part of my athletic career journey since undergrad in college. Twelve years later, I am now a collegiate athletic administrator and a contractor for the National Basketball Association due to the support I have received and volunteer work I do with Dress for Success Michigan.
Alexy helped as the primary caregiver for her grandmother along with her parents. She just didn’t know what direction she wanted to go in as far as career purposes and career-wise. She was undecided about different majors but found her niche in hospitality. She feels it directly tied to Dress for Success’ mission. It gave her a sense of belonging and empowerment.
Alexy started with Dress for Success by getting her first interview suit for a career fair, and the rest is history. She never left. She joined the Professional Women’s Group (PWG), accessed mentorship, and had the opportunity to volunteer throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. She has even volunteered as a communications liaison while she lived in Dallas for one year!
Alexy is now in a top position as facilities operations coordinator at Wayne State University and has been instrumental in bringing top sports professionals to help volunteer and support Dress for Success Michigan events. She was able to bring The Black Sports Professionals to the table and get them to support our 5K walk and our 26th anniversary gala. She is the first woman in this role and the first African - American woman in this role at this university. We’ve watched her grow and excel as a strong beautiful college student, PWG member and volunteer to become a force to be reckoned with. She progressed to complete her master’s degree, and today she has the resume of a person in their later years. We are so proud of her!
