Dress for Success Boston has been my extended family since I migrated from Trinidad 12 years ago. Starting as a client in need, I’ve blossomed into a proud team member and have found purpose empowering women as I was empowered.
Natalie was living and working in television media and production in Trinidad and Tobago when she found out that she was pregnant with her first child at age 40. When the green card her father sponsored for her came through, she decided to move to the United States. But starting over wasn’t as easy as Natalie envisioned. Beyond the extreme culture shock, she struggled to find a job. Four weeks after her son was born, she continued her search for employment to support her new family. Natalie learned about an upcoming job fair and was referred to Dress for Success Boston.
While at the boutique, Natalie saw a flyer for a program for women looking for employment offered through Dress for Success, called the Going Places Network, and immediately signed up. Through a contact she made through the Going Places Network, Natalie secured a full-time position as billing and intake coordinator at an IT company. She then joined the Professional Women’s Group (PWG) and became an ambassador for the organization. Fast forward several years later, Natalie applied for a position at Dress for Success Boston and was hired. She just celebrated her five-year anniversary with the organization.
Natalie has grown tremendously in the time she has been involved with Dress for Success Boston. After being hired as our Inventory Coordinator, she was promoted to Volunteer Manager, soon moving up to Operations Manager. In her current role, she manages all activities in our boutique, while recruiting and engaging volunteers. Natalie has an incredible work ethic and is an example for strong professional women who are single mothers.
