Shauna Jackson
My journey with Dress for Success has helped me progress and move forward in various areas of my life. I’m grateful for the assistance provided by Dress for Success Halifax to find a job and gain the confidence I needed to move forward.
Shauna came to Dress for Success Halifax approximately 16 years ago when she lost her job at a local university. As a result of being on the autism spectrum and not qualified to serve in traditional roles for employment, her challenges were greater than most. She struggled to pay her rent and to maintain her standard of living. There was a great strain on Shauna’s mental health, and she needed all the support she could get.
Dress for Success Halifax sent her on the annual trip to the Dress for Success PWG Annual Summit in the U.S., designed to support Dress for Success clients internationally. There, they learn and grow and prepare to return to their home with a CAP (Community Action Plan) for their community. Shauna created a service for those who were hearing impaired, as Shauna shares the same condition and knew she wanted to assist others. Her project was a resounding success. We have continued to be in Shauna’s life as a huge support system for the past 16 years.
Though she has had several challenges throughout the past 16 years, she has continued to strive for a better future and has become the best version of herself with an incredibly positive outlook. She never expected to be married, however; she exchanged vows with her significant other in August 2024. She is employed full-time.
Shauna never gave up and approached every employment interview, volunteer effort, and support of others in the community with enthusiasm, positivity, and a smile on her face at all times. Whenever Shauna enters space, she lights it up.
